My experiences with Gallery2
3/11 2006: Installed on raeder.dk. Installation was a breeze. Chose single-host setup, which may be a mistake, as I will want separate private and fine arts sites. Going to play around with the current installation, then blow it away and do over.
4/11 2006: Tried uploading a picture. Failed. First had to configure
ImageMagick? (even though default settings were fine). Upload failed again. Had to
activate the
ImageMagick? module (no mention of that in initial configuration). Upload failed again, due to an extra space in the filename. Ooops. Try again. Uploading... takes... forever... due... to... slow... uplink...
Eventually just scp'ed it and used a local upload directory, and it worked.
Also, the Gallery2 websites are down, can't look into Remote Gallery right now. It came up later. I downloaded the Java thingie, but didn't really try it.
6/11 2006: Trying the
KPhotoAlbum? plugin for the remote service. After installing and activating the service, I got contact. It's a little slow to select pictures (and can't just grab selection!), but it appears to be working. It can pre-scale the images, which is good both for avoiding them getting snatched and for shortening upload time.
It worked, but... EXIF orientation info was ignored (even for JPEGs), the sizes I thought I'd set weren't visible, there's no way to make subalbums on the web site -- but Remote plugin can do that!). It doesn't show the exit info like promised.
Curiously, when rotating a picture, the smaller display (640xsomething) gets rotated, but the dimensions stay the same -- instasquish! Reloading helps, though.
