Possible portable storage units at a reasonable price

This page is for jotting down notes on portable storage units for digital camera users (especially me:). It is intended for "friendly environment" situations, i.e. not for travelling through the Sahara or Amazonas where ruggedness is of the essence and you go for weeks without power. The main purpose it to be able to go on weekend photo outings without having to schlep a laptop along, but with plenty of room to offload pictures. The ability to view pictures on the unit is a plus, but not required. Main evaluation points are:

1. Battery life. Must be able to offload a card at least 5 times, preferably 10 times without needing external power.
2. Price w/o harddisk. Harddisks can be had for cheap seperately (and I happen to have a 40GB 2.5" lying around for the purpose).
3. Quality. Should not break down after a couple of weeks.
